Details of the Summer training program
Clinnovo Research Labs (CRL) offers 4 week summer training followed by 4 weeks of internship for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental students interested in pursuing clinical/research careers in the biomedical sciences, beginning the second week of June.
The training program will be delivered at our research site in HYDERABAD, and will cover methodological and technical aspects of conducting clinical research. The knowledge gained in this program will help you build a future career in either Clinical Medicine or Research. We hope this will facilitate future leaders and scientists in biomedical arena.
Stipends are available for interns to cover travel and living expenses up to 10,000 Rs during the internship period of 4 weeks at the end of the training for a limited number of candidates.During the course of the internship, groups of 3-4 students conduct clinical research under the supervision of a faculty mentor.
You will be able to present the summary of the projects at a oral/poster presentation at the end of the summer training program. This provides each student with useful feedback on his or her project as well as the opportunity to learn about what is going on in other laboratories around the world.

We do not have any preferential placement or pre-allocation of slots. For 2008 we will only consider the first 50 applicants. Deadline for applications is May 30th Friday.

ReplyDeleteThis program is focussed on training physicians to be scientists, which is one area relatively new to India per se. We will cover basics of drug and device development, regulatory guidelines and end with three primary career families : 1. Clinical Trial Managers, 2. Clinicians/Investigators and 3. Clinical Operations (CRA, CRC etc.,).
Now we can not say which stream you will take, but it takes specialist medical/dental training and some experience to be a Investigator and needs management experience to become a manager. That leaves Operations as an easier entry point for anyone.
We have partnership with some of the clinical centers and we will send PART of the trainees for internship - this will hopefully give them a practical view of clinical research to complement what had been taught in theory.

For example US based PPD (a CRO) runs a dental research unit in Austin, Texas where people can get free wisdom teeth extraction etc., for participating in clinical research related to pain with dental procedures. You can find the details at http://www.ppdi.com/specialties/dental/home.htm
