New Features of SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1 with Enhanced OLAP Analyzer

SAS enterprise guide is a graphical user interface, which runs the predefined SAS codes for a data to generate a report. This interface gives the programmer many drop down menus, starting from importing, manipulating to exporting the data to a standard report. Enterprise Guide provides a mechanism to organize the work by allowing grouping sequences of tasks, data items and results.

SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1 includes the following new features and enhancements:

New version of 64-bit SAS Enterprise Guide application, which can run on 64-bit operating systems.
New Data Explorer tool that can be used to view a SAS data set without adding the data set directly into the project.

Included enhancement options to the Query Builder, including reusable query templates and support for subset queries. Query builders can be developed as templates which are called query templates that are offered as a way to save the entire structure of the query and review that at any time.

Create a custom view of the data by selecting columns to include in the view, creating a filter for different columns, and sorting the data in the required order.

Extra added features for editing programs.
  • Make quick calculations for basic charts and statistics of each column in a SAS data set.
  • Enhanced features in the OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) Analyzer. This tool provides analysis of data stored in a database.
  • Improved new default styles for SAS Report and HTML results.

Running SAS Enterprise Guide Application on different operating system types:

New SAS EG edition is available to run on different operating systems like 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems. For different types of systems, there are two different types of SAS EG available. For 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating system, 32-bit version of SAS Enterprise Guide is used and for 64-bit Windows operating system, either 32-bit or 64-bit version of SAS Enterprise Guide can be used.

New Features for Editing Programs:

New Web links in the syntax help window can be used to get additional help when the programmers are writing or editing a SAS programs.
The new auto completion feature in the program editor window can automatically complete SAS data set and SAS data set column names.

New features in the OLAP Analyzer (Online Analytical Processing), including the ability to adjust values in a write-enabled OLAP cube. The major purpose of OLAP cube is to store the data multi dimensionally, providing very fast access to the data and also provide an easy access to filter the data in groups for end users. These cubes are characterized by dimensions and measures, where dimensions refer to how the data is organized and are usually made up of character fields, which tell about the data. A Simple example of a dimension is time with its various levels like year, quarter, day of a week, time of day etc. Measures are comprised mostly of numbers which are used for analysis of the data.

The new feature of OLAP Analyzer supports all functionalities required to navigate through multi dimensional data, add specific calculations, and extract information from multi dimensional data for further analysis with advanced statistical procedures or data mining.

The new features in the OLAP Analyzer and SAS Enterprise Guide include:
  • Access SAS OLAP cubes directly.
  • Each cube's dimensions can be previewed, its contents measured, and the default can be over ride before accessing the cube.
  • Support simple calculations, totals, subtotals, and percent of total calculations.
  • Support for filtering the data based on a ranking function or a range of values.
  • Support for Grid Computing and Parallel Execution of Tasks.
  • It also has the SAS macro facility, which facilitates parallel distribution of SAS programs in a grid. For example, if a SAS application that performs the same fundamental processing task multiple number of times against different subsets of data, this macro provides a template to facilitate the execution of this program across a grid of data sets.
Enhancements to Stored Processes:
  • SAS Enterprise guide can create stored processes in SAS 9.2 or SAS 9.3 servers. These enhancements are for stored processes that run on SAS 9.3 servers.
  • By selecting hide options, stored process can be hidden which will be no longer available in the client application where a user might run it.
  • HTML is the new default style for generating HTML data reports.
Conclusion:
Thus the New SAS Enterprise guide 5.1 gives more enhancement options and new fastest OLAP analyzing tool, while simultaneously providing standard, user friendly and fast working environment to the user.
