A new kind of nanostructure has been constructed and used to target and kill cancerous tumors.Hollow gold nanospheres are strong and narrow. In addtion, the way they absorb light can be tuned. These attributes enable the new nanostructures to target tumors in photothermal cancer therapy. In tests with mice suffering from melanoma, researchers were able to inject the nanospheres, which selectively killed targeted cancer cells.
