"Farbenfabriken Bayer and Co. Ltd." was set-up in Mumbai in 1896 and heralded the beginning of the history of Bayer in India. It employs over 106,200 people worldwide. Bayer invests over US$ 4.6 billion a year on R&D activities including Discovery Research.
